Madison Gate Records recently announced the release in digital form of the soundtrack album for the upcoming, critically-acclaimed feature film, Love is Strange; the CD follows soon. The album features classical recordings from the Naxos catalogue, including performances by the Turkish pianist and Naxos artist Idil Biret, principally in works by Chopin.
Directed by Ira Sachs, Love is Strange blends the romance of New York City’s streets and skyline with delicate Chopin piano scores to poignantly capture both the lightness and sorrows of this modern day love story.
“The history of the film score comes directly from the history of classical music itself, and in Chopin you can hear all the tones and all the emotions that one hopes to find in music for cinema,” Sachs says. “We wanted to use Chopin not unlike how Simon & Garfunkel are used in The Graduate, to create a whole world for the movie while at the same time maintaining the integrity and beauty of the original compositions themselves.”
Works by Beethoven, Wieniawski and Schnittke also feature, together with contemporary tracks by Nina Simone and Daniel Indart.
The movie opens in theatres on 22 August.
